„rochenununterbrochen“ is based on recordings of twenty persons, who recorded themselves alone at home for exactly one hour without any interruption. All kind of speaking and singing was allowed but not the smallest break. After introducing a person to the technical equipment I left her alone. I wanted to use the voice like a mechanical instrument. Once switched on they ran non-stop like an electric appliance. „Power failures“ were threatening all the time, that is to say the speakers always had to find bridges to avoid pauses and breaks. Naturally a lot of repetitions occured which reflect the recording situation. Beside all differences among the speakers these repetitions evoke a common aesthetic. All spontanuous trying and all expressivity of vocal gestures is forced into a stream, becoming more casually, more mechanic.
Moreover I used sounds, that also have a starting impulse and an automatic structure, mainly sounds of different gyroscopes. In the mechanic repetitions and variations of these sounds the aesthetic of the stream of voices continues.
Rochen: a sort of fish. reminds also to Rachen: throat
